3 WEEKS OUT

The good news is that my squat and dead seem to be coming right along where they need to be.  I have been dealing with this ongoing left shoulder and elbow issue for some time now.  Most recently, I received non-steroidal injections in the posterior left shoulder.  The injections have helped tremendously with pain management.  I have also placed a 5 mm lift in my right shoe to help compensate for my leg length differential, which is directly responsible for my hips not moving properly during squatting.  This was my first day with the lift, and I also brought the bar position up on my back.  Its definately still a low bar power position, but not as extreme.  The external rotators and my elbow were very pleased, and you can notice that the bar is riding straight across my back for the first time in months.

The bad news is...MY BENCH SUCKS.  It looks like I am only getting about 60 lbs out of my double ply katana...Somehow this shoulder and elbow issue has me struggling to hit 380 to my chest, when just 3 months ago, I was popping 475 to a two board.

I will have to put together a flawless meet to take the World Record Total I am chasing.

TRAINING UPDATES

Just sending out a quick update on exciting things at RST.

Powerlifting Team: We have added several new guys to the team including 132'er James Vrem, 181'er Thomas "Everyday is a squat day" Murray, Dusti Winkel (our only current female competitor) and 220'er Shawn "Convenience Store" Vial. You will find they all have profiles updated on the blog. RST will be bringing about 7 lifters to the WABDL Meet in Portland. Come support the athletes if you are around! March 24th, Shilo Inn in Portland. Scott "the Principal" Edmondson will be attempting to break the WABDL 220 lb. World Record Bench Press. We are all confident that he will succeed since he doesn't know failure.

Brian will also be competing on March 31st, at the APA Meet at Elite Performance Center in Portland, OR. He is attempting to break the APA drug tested 181 lb. World Record Total. It will take a perfect meet to do so, but he is confident. He is nursing some ongoing nagging injuries and setbacks; but remains driven.

Special Olympics: We have 3 training weeks left before the Regional Meet. All of the athletes are excelling and working very hard. I appreciate their efforts and hard work! We are putting together quite the team of athletes to kick some serious butt down there in Springfield March 3.

Womens Strength Classes: Coach Bobbi has added a second day of Womens Strength Classes on Tuesdays at 6:00PM. Come join the gals for a great training atmosphere. Here are some photos and training videos from various RST athletes:

Bend PD K9 Fund Raiser!!!!

What a success.  I want to thank the Bend PD for bringing the working dogs out and conducting an outstanding  demonstration.  It was so nice to have a great group of police who were supportive, helpful, and active participants to this competition.  I would also like to thank Max Muscle of Bend who provided supplements and incredibly generous prizes for the winners.  Cascade Massage Therapy and the Wellness Doctor, Jason Kremer also were a huge part of making this event such a great success.

Mens Division:
First Place:  Harold Matney benching his bodyweight for 22 reps.
Second Place: Jason Kremer benching his bodyweight for 21 reps.

Womens Division:
First Place: Becky Creswell benching half of her bodyweight for 34 reps.
Second Place: Jenny Trembley benching half of her bodyweight for 33 reps.

A huge congratulations to the winners and big ups to all competitors.  It takes a lot of courage to get out there and perform in front of a crowd!

FUNDRAISER: BENCH PRESS COMPETITION

This year we will doing a Holiday Fund Raiser benefiting the Bend Police Dept K-9 Unit.  The funds will go to assisting with the costs of boarding, training, feeding, and purchasing of new tracking and drug dogs.  I am working closely with the police dept in creating a killer event.  We hope to have a great turn out and raise some serious fundage!  There is also a pledge form for lifters to have sponsor complete to raise more money.  The pledges will be a $$ amount per repetition performed.  There will be some grub and drink, and some small prizes for the winners.

There will be a police dog demonstration in the gym during the event, which should be pretty cool.  Please email with any questions. Bench Press Competition
